About Us

Who We Are

The Team Behind the Mission

We are a team of passionate university students and recent graduates who believe that mentorship can change lives.

At Be Strong Together, we come from diverse academic backgrounds—health sciences, education, psychology, social work, and more. We’re united by our shared mission: to help young girls grow into confident, kind, and capable leaders.

We volunteer our time each week to create a safe, fun, and empowering environment where kids feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Our mentors complete training, background checks, and regular check-ins to ensure every child is met with care and consistency.

We show up each week not just to lead activities, but to listen, guide, and grow alongside the girls in our program. Whether we’re running a lesson on self-esteem, dancing together during fitness week, or chatting one-on-one during mentorship time, we aim to create moments that matter.

We believe that strong girls grow stronger together, and the relationships we build today can spark confidence for a lifetime.

Our Mission

Be Strong Together’s goal is to provide positive female role models and mentors for young girls. We are female university students across Canada who are looking to support and empower young girls. We teach them how to make and achieve their goals. Our priority is to create a positive atmosphere and make strong connections with our mentees. We strive to create a community surrounded by support, mental health advocacy, physical health upkeep, education, and friendship… It all begins with a healthy body and a happy mind!

Our History

Be Strong Together began in February 2021, right in the middle of the pandemic. So many kids were feeling disconnected, and we wanted to create a space where they could feel supported, stay active, and connect with others—even if it was online. What started as a small 16-week summer program has grown into a full-year curriculum with lessons, movement, and mentorship. From confidence to routines to real friendships, we focus on the little things that help girls feel strong from the inside out.

Since then, we’ve reached over 300 families and built a team of 100+ amazing university students who volunteer their time to make it all happen. We’re excited to keep growing, reaching more families, and building a community that supports each other—every step of the way.

FAQs

Questions About Our Program?

Here are a few common answers to our most frequently asked questions. Please email us with any more questions!

Our program is completely free thanks to the generosity and dedication of our student volunteers.

We also fundraise and apply for community grants to help cover materials, logistics, and other technical components—so every child can participate without financial barriers.

Our mentors are passionate university students and recent graduates who are committed to making a difference. Each mentor is carefully trained, selected through a thorough process, and has passed a police vulnerable sector check to ensure your child’s safety and well-being.

Safety is our top priority. All mentors complete police vulnerable sector checks and training in child safety, boundaries, and communication. We also maintain small group sizes to ensure each child is well-supported and supervised.

We run one class per week, where all participants come together to explore important topics, learn from mentors, and enjoy one-on-one time. Each session blends group discussion, activities, and mentorship to help our girls learn, grow, and feel supported.

Our class typically runs from September to April.

We’re here to support your family. If your child has any specific needs—whether emotional, physical, or logistical—please email us directly. We’re happy to make accommodations. During the program, you’ll also have a personal contact number for your site manager, so you can reach out at any time.

Our lessons focus on key areas of health and personal development. Topics include healthy habits (sleep, nutrition, hygiene), emotional well-being (self-esteem, confidence, friendship), and goal-setting. Each session is age-appropriate and interactive.

Each session begins with a group check-in and a mentor presentation, followed by either a health lesson or a fitness activity. Afterward, kids break into small mentorship groups for discussion and reflection. Every session is designed to be fun, supportive, and empowering

Absolutely. Many of our participants start off shy, but quickly feel at home thanks to our kind mentors and welcoming environment. We foster a space where kids can open up at their own pace—there’s no pressure to speak up or perform.

While sessions are designed to build independence, we understand that some kids may need support. If needed, accommodations can be made—just let us know. We’ll always work with you to make sure your child feels safe and comfortable.
